Since January, most of us have been running full steam ahead—chasing goals, checking off lists, pushing forward, and hoping we’re enjoying the process as we go. And while hard work is essential, there’s another side to success that people don’t talk about as often: the reset.
A friend once told me, “It’s okay to not do anything sometimes.” I didn’t realize how much I needed to hear that. So I’m passing it on to you—you’re allowed to slow down.
We live in a world that tells us we have to be “on” all the time. Hustle harder. Do more. Keep pushing. But recalibrating—pausing, reflecting, and resetting—is not only okay… it’s necessary.
For everyone, recalibrating looks different. But no matter the form it takes, it pulls us out of autopilot and back into intentional living. Taking a step back often gives more clarity than pushing the gas 24/7 ever could.
How Recalibrating Changed My Game
I didn’t learn this lesson until my junior year at Purdue. Basketball was all I knew—work, work, and more work. Nothing wrong with that… but I needed balance. I was finally convinced to take a full off-day. No workouts. No drills. No film.
Just rest.
It felt strange at first. But when I returned the next day? My energy was higher. My focus was sharper. I felt more like myself.
That small reset changed everything. I wasn’t a robot anymore—I was a human being who allowed himself to breathe.

Celebrate the Small Sparks
One thing I’ve learned along the way: look for the small positives. Those tiny sparks lead to more possibilities, more momentum, and more joy in the process—not just the outcome.
That was part of my commitment for the new year:
Attack challenges head‑on… but also love the mundane things.
Rest Isn’t Quitting
Every time I’ve taken a moment to appreciate myself and the work I’ve put in, I’ve come back stronger and smarter. There’s no cheat code to life. Just consistent effort—and knowing when to pause so you can keep giving your best.
Take a day. Sit down somewhere. Breathe.
Your reset button is there for a reason.
