Off the Court, On the Same Page

Winning in Switzerland was sweet, but the real victory was found around the dinner table.

The Switzerland trip ended on a high note. We won our last game and celebrated with a team dinner alongside our coaches. It was a great evening. We ate outside with a beautiful view of the courtyard. I had a steak, some of the guys went for pasta, and a few chose fondue, which is a fan favorite here. The menu was flexible, and the food was solid, but the best part was sitting down and connecting.

Everyone was conversational. Coaches, teammates—we’re all still getting to know each other, learning new things, and building trust. That kind of connection off the court is just as important as what happens on it. Being on the same page starts with moments like these.

This week has been lighter. We had about a day and a half off before getting back to practice on Tuesday. No games this week, which gives us time to focus on ourselves and our development. Our head coach is finally back after coaching with the Belgium national team, and it’s great to have him with us again. The energy is high, and we’re locked in.

We’ll use this time to improve and hopefully get our bodies healthy before our next game at the end of next week. It’s a good window to reset and refocus.

One thing I’ve really come to appreciate is how our team celebrates birthdays. The birthday guy stands in the middle of the circle while we all sing to him. But here’s the twist—he’s the one who brings the cake for everyone else. It’s a bit backward from how we do it back home, but it’s fun and it speaks to the culture of giving and sharing.

These small moments matter. They build connection, create memories, and remind us that even in the grind, there’s joy. And for that, I’m grateful.

What was it like playing at Mackey Arena? I’ve been a Purdue fan for over 40 years and as a fan there’s nothing like it!

It was absolutely amazing to be able to play at Mackey. It’s a very special place but the most important part is the fans make it a very special place. You guys bring a ton of energy, show up for every game, and that helps the players play a lot harder and perform and prepare day in and day out! Knowing that if we bring our a game the fans will love it and bring theirs too. Mackey is the best gym in the country
